As a global business working in emerging markets, we rely on a large Global Markets team to develop a combination of innovative and standard products to meet both clients' and our business needs. Join this programme and you'll be joining the largest Global Markets group in sub-Saharan Africa, with a variety of specialist desks that focus on all key aspects of the financial markets and trade across continents. Most of all, you'll enjoy working in a stimulating, fast-paced and constantly changing culture where you'll be encouraged to think for yourself, take responsibility and have some fun.
If you apply and are offered a place on our winter internship you'll experience a number of rotations and a real-time Forex trading simulation. You'll also have opportunities to network with senior managers, directors and recent graduates from each team. On your rotations you'll gain valuable practical experience in your division, working on real projects and presenting to individual desks and to desk heads. It's up to you to get as much exposure to the different divisions as possible so you can discover where your future lies – in sales, structuring, trading or support.
The divisions where you could gain experience on rotations are:
Our experience in emerging markets, as well as our presence in all major financial centres means we're well placed to deliver a 24-hour foreign exchange service to clients. Our local knowledge also means we're sensitive to all the relevant regulatory and risk factors in emerging markets globally, giving our clients total control and peace of mind.
The money markets can help cash flow management by offering investments in short and long term deposits on surplus cash to enhance returns. So, on this desk we work closely with clients to understand their strategic investment goals and then offer them a diverse range of products for various investments terms, with competitive money market rates, depending on their geographical location.
In this area, we offer a variety of interest rate products to help manage and protect clients against adverse interest rate fluctuations. These are structured to meet clients' specific risk management and investment requirements. As an emerging markets bank we have excellent insights into local conditions that might affect interest rates around the world, and can offer solutions in G10 and local currencies, and provide access to a variety of rates.
With our experience in emerging market cash and derivative products we structure credit products such as bonds and credit derivatives to meet investors' needs. This expertise in emerging markets also means we have in-depth knowledge of relevant tax, fiscal, legal and regulatory frameworks and can develop solutions to manage all relevant risks.
In equity derivatives we provide effective solutions for managing risk and yield enhancement in equity investments by trading equity derivatives to transfer risks associated with underlying security. We specialise in providing derivative products linked to selected equity markets in strategic emerging markets, which provides new opportunities for managing equity-related risks.
We offer a full range of financing, investment and risk management solutions, covering a variety of commodities, from agriculture to base metal, energy and precious metals. Our specialist teams in each of these sectors provide expert advice to clients based on our unique knowledge of emerging markets.
To qualify for the winter internship, you must be in your second year, or up to final year of study, ideally in a BSc in engineering, actuarial science, maths, business science or physics. Just as importantly, you must be passionate about working in a dealing room or treasury environment.
You need to be a South African citizen with the confidence, resilience and motivation to work well under pressure, think on your feet and bring innovative thinking to a variety of projects. Naturally, you'll need to be a good communicator with an eye for detail and an enthusiasm for learning new skills and contributing to our business.
This year candidates for the Internship will be selected from the Traders Trophy Final.
This programme is based in Johannesburg and is only open to South African nationals.
