Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) - Finance graduate programme

Finance is the independent custodian in control of the bank’s financial resources. We manage, control, report and forecast on CIB’s finances, where our clients range from Regulators and Central Banks, to Senior Management and Shareholders, to Traders and internal stakeholders. A large part of our role is also as trusted business partner, providing strategic support to Senior Management and Front Office.

Given the importance of our role to the bank, and the breadth of areas we cover, Finance always attracts top candidates. You needn’t look any further than the bank’s Senior Management team, nearly all of which come from a Finance background.

CIB Finance is split into 3 main areas:

Product Control
- responsible for understanding, substantiating and controlling the daily Income Statement and Balance Sheet

Financial Control
- responsible for ensuring that we fulfil our external financial reporting requirements

Management Information
- responsible for providing the financial information required to manage the bank effectively and support the business strategically

On the Finance graduate scheme you will get exposure to 2 of the 3 areas, gaining invaluable insight into the inner workings of a major financial institution. Unlike other schemes, you will be placed into a real role from day one thereby ensuring the experience you get is practical and relevant, and that you will be adding value to the Bank very early on in your career. There is also opportunity for a shorter rotation outside of CIB Finance or in one of our African offices.

What we are looking for:
Candidates who can demonstrate that they are highly motivated, with the combination of commercial focus with strong analytical and communication skills. Candidates who strive for excellence in everything they do, and enjoy working as part of a team in order to deliver on time and to the highest standard. Candidates with a genuine passion for Finance and Financial Markets, who want to push the boundaries to help further the business whilst maintaining a strong Control focus.

What we will offer you:
Rotations giving you exposure to CIB Finance. Support through study of either CIMA or ACCA (globally renowned Accounting qualifications). Unprecedented exposure to Senior Management and tailored in-house training, ensuring that you have the best grounding possible for your future career.

What you'll get

We're committed to quality and value in everything we offer our customers. And because you'll contribute to both from the moment you join us, it's only fair we recognise the quality you bring. And just how much we value it.

You'll see it in how we manage and reward your performance, as well as the extra benefits you could be entitled to – perhaps even shares in the bank. It all depends on the programme you choose, plus one huge factor: you.

How you'll grow

We strive to push our bank forward so we can effect real, positive change for the communities we work in today, and those we hope to work in tomorrow. But nothing's more important than helping our people push themselves forward and expand their potential.

Your core training is adapted to the programme you choose. But everything else is down to you. Right here is a world of development opportunities – anything from shadowing senior colleagues to sharing expertise at international conferences – and a continent of untapped potential. Your chances; your choices.
